Can I do Bikram Yoga if I am nursing? |
|
You bet! Bikram Yoga can help you regain your pre-preganacy size and health and de-stress during the transition to new motherhood.
Of major concern for the nursing mother is hydration. You must stay hydrated to continue to produce milk. Drink the amount of water recommended daily by your doctor or midwife, plus additional water to replace that lost in class. A good way to estimate how much water you are losing in class is to weigh yourself just before and just after class (before re-hydrating). A good rule of thumb is to drink one liter of water per two pounds lost during class.
You'll also need to think about electrolyte replacement, so be sure to eat a healthy diet rich in whole grains, lean protein, and tons of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Because of the engorgement of your breasts, you may need to continue to practice the pregnancy modifications for the cobra series until you wean your child. |
