Wear light, dry-weave fabrics and non-restricting clothing. Although you may be nervous about your body, please do not wear cotton yoga pants or sweat pants.
It is hot in there. You are going to sweat a lot. Cotton clothing will turn into soaking-wet, body armor and restrict your movement. It will also prevent you from seeing if your body is in proper alignment. Please no long pants unless absolutely necessary. They will only retard your progress in the standing, balancing postures.
The most common attire for women is shorts and a sport top or tank top. Most clothing designed for yoga is NOT designed for hot yoga. If you can't find clothing for hot yoga, try clothing designed for runners. Nike has a nice, dri-weave fabric that works well.
Men usually wear shorts. Some wear t-shirts in the beginning. It is not a requirement. Try runner's shorts or swim trunks to start. Again, stay away from cotton. Cotton retains moisture and will weigh a few pounds by the end of class! |
