This Yoga makes me feel alive. Sometimes I feel very exhausted due to my hectic and physically demanding lifestyle. The other day I took a nap and still felt crushed - I could chose between staying half dead on the couch or getting my life back by going "there" - of course I went to class and the reward was like always - I felt like new again. Also, the teachers are inspiring and motivating and know their stuff.

Two years ago, I never would have thought I'd ever be doing yoga and now I couldn't imagine my life without it. I "knew"-without ever trying it-that I didn't like yoga because it was much too boring and not a good workout. I was 100% wrong. There is nothing boring or easy about Bikram Yoga. It is the best, most complete workout I've ever experienced and every aspect of my life has improved because of it.

I truly believe that Bikram is the secret to life. There are so many lessons from the practice that strengthen choices and habits in everyday life; such as discipline, posture, and breathing through discomfort.
Just get yourself to keep coming back! It certainly won’t get any easier, but the benefits will definitely outweigh the difficulty and make this a fantastic long term investment in yourself.

In the car the other day I thought about how a marathon is 26.2 miles, and the Bikram series is 26 postures and 2 breathing excercises- 26.2, but it's a different kind of marathon that doesn't sap your strength, and allows you to go with your body day by day, practice by practice.

The improvement in my balance and strength has been very inspiring, even in my posture. I have early stages osteoporosis so it's very important to build back my upper body strangth. I have also been really surprised that my knee pain, which was pretty bad at the beginning in a lot of the postures, is almost all gone!

When I finally decided to start, he made sure I knew what to expect. As the instructors often say to the newbies, all you need to do is stay in the room. So that is what I focused on, staying in the room. It was after the second class the next day that I realized how intense, but rewarding, it could be.

After 2 years of practicing Bikram, I would advise a 1st timer to stay with it... go as often as you can your first 6 months and as many consecutive days as you can. Drink lots of water, make sure you keep breathing and listen. Don't try to muscle through it, go step by step, even if it seems you're not progressing with the postures. Focus on yourself and block out the distractions. |
