After your first Bikram class, what was your impression? |
What drives you to continue to practice? What keeps bringing you back? |
I wasn't sure I would (or COULD!) do it again.
The constant improvement keeps me coming back, even if a chart of my progress would look something like the stock market. Every day is different, and now I count on that. Overall, over the months, I definitely see progress. I have a history of chronic back and neck problems and it is great to finally feel improvement in these areas. I also to feel quite confident that I am not going to injure myself further as in other physical activities that I might have chosen.
What are some of the benefits and changes you've seen in yourself?
What is your favorite posture in the series and why? |
It is amazing how long I can hold my breath under water, for starters. More importantly, I am more aware of my posture, and how my body moves. I notice that I can now pluck things from the top shelf of my kitchen cabinets with little effort, and, even better, celebration of those moments.
Rabbit pose. It is near the final Savasana and, done with the right effort and control, is an amazing stretch. That said, ask me again tomorrow and I may have a different answer.
What is your greatest challenge about the yoga? Yourself? |
What advice can you give to a 1st timer after they complete the class? |
By far, the greatest challenge is keeping my mind focused on what I am doing without judging my progress or lack thereof.
Keep coming!
Is there anything you would like to add? |
The Bikram experience for me is unique in that I feel more motivated to come to class than I did with other activities like the gym or running. If I feel lousy when I get up in the morning, I feel like the best thing I can do is go to class. If I feel great in the morning, I feel like it would be a shame not to go to class. The variety of instructors is also a nice part of the experience. They are all terrific, but with unique teaching style and personalities, it adds variety to the structured class. When Sara sings during the final Savasanah, that is an extra special gift.
