After my first class, I knew I had found something valuable for my quality of life.

Over the past decades I've had to do a ton of driving as well as sitting hours at a time on a piano bench. At one time I'd taken up running quite seriously for about 15 years, including marathons and half marathons and enjoyed that, but it all came with a price. Then I was a gym junkie for 7 or 8 years. Now that I've reconnected with my body through Hatha Yoga, I know I'll never need to do any of those activities again, and I don't miss them at all. In the car the other day I thought about how a marathon is 26.2 miles, and the Bikram series is 26 postures and two breathing excercises- 26.2! But it's a different kind of marathon that doesn't sap your strength, and allows you to go with your body day by day, practice by practice. I can't see giving up this fabulous habit for the rest of my life. It has improved my flexibility and concentration, both of which I require in my piano performance! Thanks to the ancient sages and Patanjali for bringing yoga to India, and thanks to Bikram for distilling it without diluting it!

As mentioned, greater flexibility and concentration, and more and more pliancy in hips and knees, plus breathing awareness, loosening of shoulders, and so much more!

Eagle makes me feel really good, but I'm beginning to enjoy the locust poses.

To remain present without projecting how I'll feel ten minutes hence, and to keep attention on breathing, since that's really the only thing you have to do, truly, besides following the script to the best of your ability. Also learning to differentiate between being tricked by the mind as opposed to an honest response or need that the body may have in practice.

Listen to your body, and don't drink too many fluids a short time before class, say 2 hours, but before that time, hydrate away!

The yoga community is wonderful to be around and there is respect and a sense that everyone is doing their very best.
