After your first Bikram class, what was your impression? |
What drives you to continue to practice? What keeps bringing you back? |
My impression was relief because I survived, barely. I felt dizzy and nauseated and in worse physical shape than I suspected. I discovered the importance of hydration, before and after class so I took better care of myself, hoping to feel better during class. It helps...a lot.
With noticeable physical improvements, the class becomes more fun. Right now I'm enjoying Standing Separate-leg Stretching because I can almost touch my forehead to the floor.
What are some of the benefits and changes you've seen in yourself?
What is your favorite posture in the series and why? |
Overall, I'm becoming more flexible and developing more inner strength. Other benefits are hard to describe, but I know they carry over to my work and other activities. I ran in a 10k this summer and when I ran by my brother's house, he said I was the only one smiling.
All of the standing poses with two feet on the mat and any forward bend. I'm starting to enjoy triangle since I am better attuned to self-adjustments. Since Savasana is a legitimate pose, I'm going with that as a favorite.
What is your greatest challenge about the yoga? Yourself? |
What advice can you give to a 1st timer after they complete the class? |
| Any posture defying gravity especially while balancing on one leg. My biggest challenge is balance so I guess it's a matter of mental toughness and focus. If I can remove my thoughts from the cognitive space and shift to being in the moment, I enjoy the flow. Without the flow, I finish one pose and worry about the the next while plotting my escape. |
Just listen to the instructor, stay on your own mental mat and schedule a class that works for you.. make it happen.

Is there anything you would like to add? |
