After your first Bikram class, what was your impression? |
What drives you to continue to practice? What keeps bringing you back? |
That it was harder than running a marathon, and that I was hooked because I felt so challenged and so shocked at how poor my balance and strength had gotten, not to mention the shocking amount of sweat, and light headedness.....
The fact that it doesn't get "easier", it only gets different, and the amazingly quick improvement in certain postures. The years from 55-60 seem to have been key years for me in terms of losing balance, and gaining pain. I was able to do almost all yoga poses only a few short years ago, and I want to get that ability back again. And Bikram is unlike any other yoga to me--much more challenging and meditative--there are NO distractions--only what is happening at that moment.

What are some of the benefits and changes you've seen in yourself?
What is your favorite posture in the series and why? |
The improvement in my balance and strength has been very inspiring, even in my posture. I have early stages osteoporosis so it's very important to build back my upper body strangth. I have also been really surprised that my knee pain, which was pretty bad at the beginning in a lot of the postures, is almost all gone!
I love all the standing, balancing ones: eagle, etc because that is where I had lost so much strength and balance and now I see such growth.
What is your greatest challenge about the yoga? Yourself? |
What advice can you give to a 1st timer after they complete the class? |
Taking the 2 hour time block. I was trying to go 4-5 days a week, and realized that i can't do that and still fast walk/run outside 4 days a week.
Keep coming back! The improvement in mind and body is rewarding!
Is there anything you would like to add? |
I think all the teachers are well trained and high quality. I especially love Sara's knowledge and her classes and the way she stays in the room with us for some of the time of the final resting--and sings or talks us through that most important pose...validating its importance.
