After your first Bikram class, what was your impression? |
What drives you to continue to practice? What keeps bringing you back? |
The heat was awful. : )
Individual corrections from teachers go along way for me. I really enjoy your different personalities, teaching styles, and most importantly, the sense that each teacher genuinely wants us to be stronger people. I acknowledge this doesn't come without an investment on your part so I thank each of you for the positive energy you give to each class.

What are some of the benefits and changes you've seen in yourself?
What is your favorite posture in the series and why? |
I truly believe that Bikram is the secret to life. There are so many lessons from the practice that strengthen choices and habits in everyday life; such as discipline, posture, and breathing through discomfort.
I love the tidbits shared during Savasana. One that resonated with me was the effect of stress on non-essential organs. I've shared this with others and it has reinforced the benefits of deep breathing when stuck in traffic and endless flight delays!

What is your greatest challenge about the yoga? Yourself? |
What advice can you give to a 1st timer after they complete the class? |
To simply be under instruction and in the present. When I released myself from the habitual burden of guessing the next pose I could spend more energy on just responding to an individual cue or adjustment.
Just get yourself to keep coming back! It certainly won’t get any easier, but the benefits will definitely outweigh the difficulty and make this a fantastic long term investment in yourself.
Is there anything you would like to add? |
I travel quite a bit so have started visiting another studio and was most surprised by the lack of discipline in the class. This made me appreciate your facilitators and the discipline in Portsmouth even more. I remember being told not to fidget, scratch, talk, and had a hard time conforming when I first started. Like so many Bikram lessons, this makes you mentally stronger and it's easier to focus on your practice when others around you are also focused.
