After your first Bikram class, what was your impression? |
What drives you to continue to practice? What keeps bringing you back? |
This is really hard...I need to keep coming back...this is the first time in over a year I have been present and peaceful.
It has been 2 years now since I wrote a testimonial and two years since I began doing Bikram. I thought it would be cool to re-read what I wrote then and compare to my current experience. I was right!
The strength I have gained physically and mentally are what drive me to keep practicing. The growth is constant, even when the setbacks appear. There is no limit to how strong or centered I can become both physically and mentally.
There is no other physical activity that provides everything I need without the option of injuring myself. There is no other activity that I can do daily and not injure myself.
What are some of the benefits and changes you've seen in yourself?
What is your favorite posture in the series and why? |
I am happier. I am whole. When I began Bikram I was very broken emotionally. I am present. I was far from present when I began. I am strong mentally and physically in a very integrative and profound way. I wasn't close to this when I began.
Standing bow is still my favorite! It's beautiful, and my growth in this posture is incredible. It's so cool to be able to do what I used to look around the room and see, wishing I was able to do that...now I can! Not always, but quite a bit.
I also love standing head to knee. It's very challenging and requires tremendous strength and focus. It's a thrill when it happens.
What is your greatest challenge about the yoga? Yourself? |
What advice can you give to a 1st timer after they complete the class? |
The greatest challenge is to stay present; to know that where I am is exactly where I am supposed to be. I've gained a lot of confidence in this area, but of course, as i am still human, it will always be a challenge at deeper and deeper levels as I evolve.
Come back immediately no matter what. If your butt hurts and you're limping...you should come back. Nothing is wrong, you're just restoring your body to where it's meant to be..and it will get there.
Is there anything you would like to add? |
The Portsmouth studio is a very special place. It offers compassion, focus, support, humor, guidance, and tremendous committment and knowledge. You couldn't ask for a better studio to begin your practicce.
